Kid’s Day Out

robotics-logoReady for a show? Join as the Southport High School robotics team, Cybercards, puts on a demonstration on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southport Community Center, 6901 Derbyshire Rd. For more information, call (317) 786-5489.

The Cybercards participate in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a non-profit organization that allows kids of all ages to experiment, build, and create machines that satisfy a task. There are four divisions and the SHS team is in the highest level FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). Every year, FIRST headquarters creates a new game in which a task is given that we have to build a machine to satisfy that task. They only have 6 weeks to build this machine.

IN THE PAST:

2015 Kid’s Day Out on the Second Saturday in February was a hit! Children had the opportunity to participate in crafts, face painting, an Animalia show, and eat pizza and cupcakes. Animalia brought some animal friends for everyone to learn about, including ferrets, a barred owl, bearded dragon and chinchilla.  Thanks to everyone who shared the day with the Southport Parks Department!
