July 4 Parade and Festival

Southport will be covered in red, white and blue on Monday, July 4, 2016 for its 5th Annual July 4 Parade and Festival! Festivities begin with a parade through Southport leading to the park where a Independence Day ceremony will take place. Then, celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial by singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ having cake, a balloon launch and kids’ games!

Schedule of Events:

9 – 10:30 a.m.: parade line-up at Southport Elementary. Interested in participating? The registration form can be accessed by clicking here.

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.: Parade. The parade goes from Southport Elementary, down Walnut to Southport Road. It continues down Southport Road to Derbyshire Road, ending at Southport Park.

11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.: Ceremony

12:30 – 1:30 p.m.: Bicentennial Birthday Party

  • Take part in the dancing! Community dances have been part of Indiana’s history for at least 200 years. The tradition continues to evolve, and today you can join in events including square dances and contra dances taking place regularly right here in central Indiana – and all over the world. To introduce you to this lively and social pastime, July 4th in Southport Park will be the site of dancers from an English Country Dance group. Ken Gall, a popular and friendly caller at events large and small, will teach you how to do the dances, and how much fun they are. We’ll have live music from Entwyned, a duo (John Paolillo and Twy Bethard) playing compelling Celtic-influenced and old-time melodies.

Thanks for everyone who came out to the 2015 July 4th Parade and celebration!
